I worked with the Science Center’s existing logo to create an expanded brand guide and marketing collateral for the organization, including a rack card, business cards, and promotional flyers targeted towards the community and tourists visiting Sitka.&nbsp; The Science Center’s work is multifaceted; I created a set of vector illustrator patterns, one for each of the organization’s areas of focus (hatchery, ocean research, education, and terrestrial research), as well as secondary colors to highlight each focus area.&nbsp; Swag Design I created this logo &amp; swag design for Red Herring food truck. A “red herring” is a clue or peice of information in literature that is intended to distract or trick the reader. The owner of the business, who is also a writer, wanted to play around with this idea in the identity of the business. The chefs at red herring make incredible on-the-go lunches using local ingredient and unique recipes. Lee House designed the site, I developed a custom theme for the site using the Wordpress platform, and we worked closely with Bethany Goodrich, SSP’s Communications Director, Lione Clare of the Sitka Conservation Society, and several others from the SSP team.&nbsp;We wanted to create a robust and engaging site that gave the SSP team the tools they needed to share their beautifully photographed, thoughtful, &amp; well-written stories to a large audience online. This project really stretched my development skills because it was so complex in terms of content and organization. Working with Lee’s mockups, I developed an interactive map for the homepage that allows the user to learn more about each of SSP’s partner communities. The theme of the 2023 event is Sound Science: Voices from the Ocean.&nbsp; Before starting the project, the SSSC team showed me their archive of several decades-worth of WhaleFest designs. These illustrations were inspired by several of the old festival designs, which were created by local printmakers who etched or carved the designs.&nbsp; I created a color scheme for WhaleFest that is distinct but complementary to the Sitka Sound Science Center’s brand. Previously, I had managed Outer Coast’s old site, which was a Jekyll site built using GitHub. The old site required knowledge of code to edit, so as the institution grew it came time to create a new site using a more user-friendly CMS.&nbsp; The goal with the new site was to really highlight the student experience, the beauty of Sitka, and the stories that make Outer Coast unique.
